About Me

Welcome to Lindsey Land a blog focusing on teaching in the Digital age.

I am Lindsey Welker-Pugh. Having been born and raised here in Idaho, I have a deep love of nature. The outdoor activities I enjoy such as camping, hiking and fishing have given me a deep appreciation of the beauty and complexity of nature and its relationship to us. In 2006 I received a B.A. from Boise State University in English with an emphasis on creative writing; I wasn't sure what I would do with my degree the important thing was having one. Once in the "real world" I found myself writing for profit, er paycheck as a technical writer until the economy hit. I am recently married and have lovable pup called Eddison.

I have always had a passion for language and the written word which drove me to major in English and ultimately led to my decision to inspire through teaching. I discovered early on that reading and writing allowed me an outlet to explore and express myself. I hope to be able to give students a foundation for creativity and allow expression not only through words but through language itself.

As an English teacher, I believe students need a firm understanding of the rules that govern literacy. Students should be able to properly express themselves in written form but I also believe it is a teacher’s responsibility to show a student its okay to bend and break the rules in your writing. A good foundation allows students to appreciate the different forms of writing and recognise their strengths. By encouraging students to understand linguistics, you can allow freedom for their writing without having to worry about the correctness of spelling and punctuation. I also think its important to impress on students that language is fluid and the meaning different for each reader depending on their background.
